My fibromyalgia is in remission but it wasn't always that way.
Diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2007, my illness became so severe that I filed for Social Security Disability in 2008. By the time my disability case made its way to a judge in early 2010, my health had improved so much that I no longer qualified. Today, my fibromyalgia is in full remission and has been for many years.
Since 2009, I've helped fibromyalgia patients all over the world take back control of their lives. I am a Certified Health Coach, Master Certified Fibromyalgia Coach®, and an expert in managing fibromyalgia. My students and clients say they particularly appreciate my compassion, gentle support, and fun coaching style.
As a way to share all I'd learned, I wrote Take Back Your Life in June 2015. By the end of that year, I created my Certified Fibromyalgia Coach® and Certified Fibromyalgia Advisor® Training Programs and founded the International Fibromyalgia Coaching Institute, LLC. My second book, The Fibromyalgia Coach was published in 2017 and the Fibromyalgia Podcast℠ debuted in March 2019. In 2022, I published the second edition of Take Back Your Life.
I am a Certified Health Coach who has fibromyalgia: I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2007. In 2008, my fibromyalgia became so bad that I filed for social security disability. In 2009, my doctor introduced me to a health coach and everything changed. By 2010, when my disability case finally came before a judge, I no longer qualified.
I began training new coaches in 2015 and founded the Institute in 2016 with our first graduating class. The Fibromyalgia Podcast℠ launched in March 2019. (se me ocurre que seria chevere poder hacer una línea de tiempo con un diseño bonito para esta parte)
Today, my fibromyalgia is in remission; I have no fibromyalgia pain and the energy to do the things I want to do.
I am the author of two books on fibromyalgia: The Fibromyalgia Coach and Take Back Your Life. I’m the creator and host of the Fibromyalgia Podcast, and founder of the International Fibromyalgia Coaching Institute, LLC. I am a certified Health Coach and have worked exclusively with fibromyalgia patients since 2009.
Even though everyone experiences fibromyalgia symptoms differently, only someone who has it themselves really understands what you’re going through and the challenges you face every day.
Only someone who has fibromyalgia and has gone through the rounds of doctors, medications, tests, therapies and treatments understands how frustrating it is to get your hopes up just to have something not work again. Or how wonderful just a one or two percent improvement can be.
You can read the long version of my story here, but the short version is this:
It’s taken time, but I’ve been able to come off all my fibromyalgia medications, including my pain meds. The last time I felt fibromyalgia pain of any kind was on New Year's Eve 2018, after sleeping in a hotel bed that was too hard.
After experiencing the joy of getting my life back — and the wonder in my husband’s face of, “who is this woman I’m married to?” — I wanted to share that joy with others. I became a coach, specializing in helping women with fibromyalgia, and then began training others to do the same kind of work.
I have been a Certified Health Coach since 2010, receiving certifications from the Health Institute and Villanova University’s College of Nursing. I’m a graduate of the Leaders Against Pain Scholarship Training sponsored by the National Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain Association, and a member of the Leaders Against Pain Action Network.
I am the author of two books: the award-winning Take Back Your Life: Find Hope and Freedom from Fibromyalgia Symptoms and Pain and the international best-seller, The Fibromyalgia Coach: Feel Better, Change Lives, and Find Your Best Job Ever.
I live in the suburbs of Seattle, with my awesome husband, Scott, and my cat, Sam. On nice days, you’ll find me on the back of Scott’s Harley. When it’s raining, I’ll be by the fire, reading a murder mystery, with Sam in my lap.
These blog posts contain more of my story than what can be found under the About Me and My Story links above. This is the day-to-day stuff, the tips, advice, stories, opinions, and everything else that could come out of living as a fibro babe every day. Enjoy!
